Extended Producer Responsibility is a set of rules and regulations put in place by the government to protect the environment. Producers, Importers, Brand, and Owners, all fall under the umbrella of Extended Producer Responsibility. EPR is primarily concerned with aspects of post-industrial and post-consumer plastic waste litter, with an initial focus on packaging plastic waste management.
Extended Producer Responsibility was created to help manage and protect the natural environment, which is being damaged by a variety of sources. The basic purpose of Extended Producer Responsibility is to recover Post-industrial and Post-consumer Plastic released by various Producers, Brand Owners, and Importers.
Kerala is responsible for guiding technical and managerial support to the Local Self Governments of the State. Also responsible for conceptualizing, action planning, conducting creative workshops, organizing training programs, initiating sector-related studies, bringing out occasional papers, initiating action research, conducting monitoring, and such other activities in Waste Management Sector. The Mission is also implementing Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), and Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) in the State.
